Metadata is information about the origin and characteristics of the data set so that you can see if the data is suitable for your intended uses. This page provides you with a brief description of each of the data sets included in the ARROW hydrological map. For the complete metadata description for each of the data sets, please navigate to the ARROW data page, accessible by clicking here.

Whenever possible, the complete metadata description used is that given to FNAI by the agency providing the data set. The only action that FNAI has taken with the data provided to us by another agency is to clip the geographic extent of the data to just the seven counties in the ARROW region.

The hydrography (both lines and polygons) and the elevational data sets were developed off of USGS 1:24,000 topographic maps and provided to FNAI by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection through their web site.

The Outstanding Florida Waters area was obtained by FNAI through the Department of Environmental Protection’s web site.

The aquatic preserve boundaries were obtained through the Department of Environmental Protection’s web site in September of 2004.

The 303(d) 2002 Group 1 Impaired Water data set was obtained through the DEP’s web site in September of 2004.

The brownfield areas and the groundwater contamination area boundaries were obtained from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection web site in September of 2004.

The STORET sites were downloaded from the Florida DEP web site in August of 2004.

The Florida Springs location was obtained from the Florida Geologic Survey in August of 2004.

The Florida sinkhole locations were obtained from the Florida DEP web site in August of 2004.

The aerials are based on United States Geological Survey aerial photographs taken in 1999 that have been corrected so the photos can be used as a reference layer in geographic information systems.

The roads are from the U.S. Bureau of the Census’ Topologically Integrated and Geographic Referencing (TIGER) files developed in 1999 for the 2000 Census.

For detailed information about any of the above data sets, please refer to the metadata for each data set, available on the ARROW web site’s data page (click here to access that page).
