Metadata is information about the origin and characteristics of the data set so that you can see
if the data is suitable for your intended uses. This page provides you with a brief description
of each of the data sets included in the ARROW historical resources map. For the complete metadata
description for each of the data sets, please navigate to the ARROW data page,
accessible by clicking here.
Whenever possible, the complete metadata description used is that given to FNAI by the agency
providing the data set.
All of the cemeteries, resource groups, historic buildings, historic surveys, archaeological sites,
and registered historic places data were provided to FNAI in September of 2004 from the Master Site
File by the Division of Historic Resources, Florida Department of State. The only action that FNAI
has taken with the data provided to us by DHR is to generalize the archaeological sites to the
township/range/section that an archaeological site is located. If more specific location information
is desired about such these sites, the ARROW site user may contact the Division of Historical Resources
directly for the information.
The hydrography (both lines and polygons) data sets were developed off of USGS 1:24,000 topographic
maps and provided to FNAI by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection through their web site.
The aerials are based on United States Geological Survey aerial photographs taken in 1999 that have been
corrected so the photos can be used as a reference layer in geographic information systems.
The roads are from the U.S. Bureau of the Census’ Topologically Integrated and Geographic Referencing
(TIGER) files developed in 1999 for the 2000 Census.
For detailed information about any of the above data sets, please refer to the metadata for
each data set, available on the ARROW web site’s data page (click
here to access that page).
