About the Data

NOTE: As of August 2002, we have only converted 210 of the 1,057 quads in the state to State Plane projection. We are not converting on a regular basis because of the labor-intensity. If you need a quad in State Plane, we can custom-project it for you.

Check the Fly Dates to see when a photograph was taken.

Projection: State Plane
Datum: NAD8
Units: Feet
Graphics Type: MrSID
World File: SDW
Resolution: 1-Meter

The files are in MrSID format. MrSID is a proprietary file format that compresses large images to a fraction of their original file size without quality loss.
Determining the File Name
Use the Quad Name Locator to find the DEP quad number.

The file names begin with "Q", followed by the DEP quad number, followed by "NW", "NE", "SW", or "SE" to indicate quarter-quad position within the quad.

Each MrSID quad has up to 5 image files: one for each quarter-quad and one containing a mosaic of the individual pieces.

Downloading Instructions
FTP is recommended for large downloads.

These images are available on CD, DVD, or portable hard drive for a fee.

Special Software Needed
  • GIS software that can read a MrSID file is recommended. Be sure to download the SDW file and place it in the same directory as the SID. ESRI's ArcView supports MrSID format (be sure to turn the extension on).
  • The MrSID Viewer and MrSID GeoExpress View are stand-alone applications designed to optimize the viewing of imagery that is in the MrSID imaging format.
